Welcome to my first tutorial ever. I hope I didn't miss anything!
Materials needed:
- 1 charm pack( or scraps cut to 5x5 squares, I used Moda's new Gobble Gobble line)
- thread
- sewing machine
- pinking shears
- bias tape or yardage
- liquid stitch (optional)
- iron
- ruler or anything with a straight edge
- all seams are 1/4"
Step 1
Lay out 4 charm squares in a pleasing manner like so.
Step 2
Sew your top two squares together right sides facing.
Repeat this step with your next two squares.
Step 4
Iron your seams together in the same direction, like so.
Step 5
Sew your two sets of sewn squares together, right sides facing like so.
Step 6
Iron your seams again and your piece will look like this when you are finished.
Step 7 (optional)
Add a decorative seam if desired. I used a zig zag stitch.
Step 8
Fold your fabric in half lengthwise with the fold facing you. Using a ruler or anything straight, draw a diagonal line down the center of the piece like so, you can use tailors chalk or even a pencil for this. Starting at the small end next to your seam cut your fabric with your pinking shears.
Step 9
Iron your finished piece and liquid stitch the seams you just cut if desired. (optional)
Repeat this process until you have the number of banners you desire for your intended space. I made one banner piece and took it to the area I am planning to hang it, and figured from there how many banners I would actually need.
Finished banner piece below
Step 10
After completing all of your banner flags open your bias tape and tuck your flags inside of the tape, sew your flags in place using a 1/4" seam.
Viola! Celebration banner complete, hang and enjoy. Happy Fall!
